The income inequity is rising formidably in Bangladesh though it is a developing country now. Here, the rich, 10% of the population, enjoy the benefits of 41% of the total income. Whereas the poor, the other 10% of the population, can gain only 1.31% of the total income generated nationally. A study of Income & Expenses in 2022 organized by Bangladesh Buru of Statistics (BBS) shows that the income inequity between the rich and the poor has continuously risen in the last 5 decades. As a result, 30% of the population gathers two-thirds of the total income, and the rest 70% gains only the rest one-third. In recent days, the per capita income is about $ 3000 in Bangladesh. It is uplifted from a lower-income to a lower middle-income country in 2015 and will be enlisted as a developing country from the lowest developing country (LDC) in 2026 as per UN reports. The growing economy, income, and assets haven’t created any positive impact on the lifestyle of the majority due to the improper division of income and assets nationally. As a result, a new class of ultra-rich huge assets is generated in illegal and improper ways. (Ref: The Daily Prothom Alo of 26th June, 2023).
Here may be noted that A rich spends $250 for dinner whereas a poor can afford only $0.25 and it clarifies the crucial inequity situation of income in Bangladesh. To uplift the standard of life of the poor, investment is essential in broadening their earning skills, ways of education and nutritious food availability. The poor need to be supported financially in developing their working skills, confidence level, and ways of thinking. We do believe proper investment in the relevant programs is the only way to get rid of these devastating conditions of poor life in Bangladesh.
